Working through Covid with Handyman Assist


As you may or may not be aware, for the first time since its inception really, Corona Virus or Covid-19 has reared its ugly head within Logan, with somewhat of a vengeance.

And to date, more and more cases are being reported on a near daily basis.


And because of this…

The following conversation is quickly becoming the norm…


Hello customer,

I am scheduled to attend your property to [insert task] on [insert date].

During the COVID-19 pandemic I am (like most responsible businesses), taking additional steps to make sure everyone can stay healthy and safe when I visit your home.

So that I can keep my staff and family healthy and safe during the COVID-19 pandemic I need to ask you a couple of questions about your household before I can visit. Please know that anything that you tell me will only be used by us to determine if I can attend your home. Your information will not be shared or used for any other purpose.

Ok, first has anyone in your household been diagnosed with COVID-19? Second, is anyone in your household unwell and have symptoms related to COVID-19? This includes fever, coughing, sore throat or sneezing? And lastly, is anyone in your household self-isolating, for example, because they have travelled recently?

It is very important that you inform me in advance if anyone in your household is unwell, or self-isolating because they are at risk of becoming unwell with COVID-19.

If your answer is yes to any of the above, due to strict public health requirements I’ll be unable to attend if anyone in your household is unwell or in self-isolation. I will of course treat this information in the strictest of confidence and will be more than happy to reschedule your appointment for another time.

And if all is well…

Thanks for confirming that, I will be at your property as scheduled. And to ensure everyone’s health and safety I have implemented some additional measures to manage any risks to you or your family’s health and the health of those at my end, including increased hygiene measures, physical distancing, not performing certain tasks, conducting any meetings outside etc].

I am grateful for your cooperation with these measures and ask that you do same things for Handyman Assist that you are doing to keep your own family and friends healthy and well.

This includes frequent handwashing, covering your nose and mouth when you need to cough or sneeze and observing social distancing rules.

Learn what Localad Services Handyman Assist is doing on your behalf, throughout this latest Covid outbreak…


Step 1.


First off, Handyman Assist have found out all the relevant rules regarding Covid and we know what our WHS duties are. We follow the current public health directions in the Queensland state. Checking what we are and aren’t allowed to do for our type of business and making sure we can operate safely under these current conditions.

WHS laws require us to ensure the safety of ourselves, our staff and any others (namely you and yours) in the workplace as much as we reasonably can. Checking in from time to time with our WHS regulators.


Step 2.


We have taken the time to think about what could go wrong and the associated health & safety risks in our business.

Covid Checklist

Have I done everything I reasonably can to keep people physically and psychologically safe during the pandemic?

Right from the start, I have been voluntarily learning about all the risks involved. I even took the time to qualify myself in a course of Infection Control Training for Covid-19 through Aspen Medical.


ICT Covid-19

Have I consulted with my workers about the risks (new and existing) and how we can address them?

In short, yes, I have. This is done through both induction training sessions and through tool box talks at the beginning of every job Handyman Assist undertakes.


Have I talked to the other businesses I work with or share any premises with?

Again yes. I have consulted with my long-term clients, commercial clients and even suppliers, agreeing in turn to adopt any precautionary measures they have in place.


Does everyone know what to do if they become unwell (e.g. when to stay away from the workplace) or where to get help when they are having problems?

This is initially undertaken through both inductions and weekly meetings.


Have I trained my workers on new processes and equipment?

Naturally. Me and my workers have been trained to look out for each other. And we’re not shy when it comes to letting each other know if and when there’s a problem. All workers, customers and visitors are under constant surveillance.


How have I kept myself, workers and customers safe in the past? And how has COVID-19 changed that?

More so for our commercial clients, every job we undertake has its own Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) written up, underlining all associated risks and what measures are taken to counter them.


And as of late, in order to facilitate regular hand washing where a sink is not readily available, we now carry hand sanitisers in our van as standard, as well as a hospital grade disinfectant as recognised by the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods for the sanitizing of all hard surfaces after any work completion.

And finally, with respect to PPE, along with hard hats, safety goggles, steel toed boots and Hi-Vis workwear, while it is still not yet mandatory in Queensland, we even have our own company branded face masks. To be worn at the request of any of our customers whilst on site doing our absolute best for you.

We honestly don’t mind.

Thinking of it as another means to best represent a great forward thinking handyman services company.
